The iPad Mini has always been a fan favourite, and the iPad Mini 6 is certainly looking to continue that trend! Perhaps it’s the unique design or maybe there’s a specific allure to using a device that’s normally known to be massive. Either way, we’re potentially looking at the biggest update to the iPad Mini Series in years with the purported release of the iPad Mini 6, so for all of you that think more is less, read on and see what to expect from the iPad Mini 6, plus some beautiful renders courtesy of the wizards at Front Page Tech.
Mini Yet Massive
Return of The Mini
It’s been two years since we were last graced by the simplicity plus power of the iPad Mini 5 and while it seems that the iPad Pro and iPad Air have mainly been in the spotlight, it seems we’ll be seeing the return of the Mini sooner than expected. According to 9to5Mac, prolific Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims we’ll see a new iPad Mini in the second half of this year. He believes that it will include a 9-inch display, with smaller bezels alongside Touch ID, while Japanese blog Macotakara reports we’ll see an 8.7-inch iPad Mini this year. Whatever the display is, we’re expecting a Mini design with Massive performance.
Dummy Half
In what seemed to be our first look at the fabled iPad Mini 6, leaker Sonny Dickson posted on Twitter images of the supposedly new iPad Pro and iPad Mini dummies, although that seems to no longer be the case as leaks and renders from you guessed it… Jon Prosser now state otherwise! As evident in the photo from Sonny Dickson, The iPad Mini 6 would have been released with a home button and a design that’s reminiscent of previous iPad Minis. As always, Front Page Tech claim to have received actual images for the iPad Mini 6 which show a complete overhaul and the removal of the home button, in a design that bears resemblance to the latest iPad Pro. Once again to safeguard the identity and reputation of the leaker, they’ve produced their own renders that should give us an accurate picture of what to expect with the iPad Mini 6, and we have to say we’re quite happy with this redesign, coming in at dimensions of 206.3mm x 137.8mm x 6.1mm. Expect to see this beautiful redesign in silver, black and gold later this year.
Under The (Mini) Hood
Apart from how stylish the iPad Mini 6 looks in renders, it’s worth noting what exactly will be powering it. AppleInsider state that according to Chinese tech blog MyDrivers, an A13 Bionic Chip would be included in the iPad Mini 6 instead of the latest A14 chip, but according to Jon Prosser, the iPad Mini 6 will reportedly come bundled with the A14 Bionic Chip and even include 5G, further cementing the notion of mini size alongside massive performance. Another burning question we’re all sure you’ve been thinking about is if the new iPad Mini will include a Lightning or USB-C port, and from what Jon Prosser and other sources have learned, the iPad Mini 6 will do away with the famous (or infamous) Lightning port to pave way for the future with USB-C. Apart from that, another nifty little accessory could be coming to complement the latest iPad Mini. Earlier this year, 9to5Mac showcased a leaked video of the supposed Apple Pencil 3, but from the images Front Page Tech have received, they are speculating that it could actually be an Apple Pencil Mini! While this is all still speculation, we can’t help but think it would be the perfect accessory!
Not much has been revealed over what resolution or type of display the iPad Mini 6 has, but we could see a similar resolution to the iPad Mini 5 or if MacRumors are correct, a Mini-LED display may be on the cards according to Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who states that Apple are indeed manufacturing an iPad Mini which will include it. The iPad Mini 5’s display certainly was no slouch so consider us pleasantly awaiting whatever display the latest iPad Mini will have.
While the iPad Mini 6 may have missed Apple’s Spring Loaded event, from what has leaked fans of the iconic device are surely in for a treat. The redesign looks to be the change that fans have been craving and shows that the Mini has a place amongst its bigger siblings.
