Stop Wasting Time And Start Reading This iPhone 12 Speculation

smartphonesshop.com.au - With the release of the new mid-range iPhone SE, as exciting as it is there’s many of you who are waiting for the inevitable iPhone 12 reveal. Unfortunately, we haven’t discovered how to time travel just yet but in the meantime, there is a wealth of leaks going around for the iPhone 12. We’ve been covering leaks and launches for quite a while in our industry but the iPhone 12 has us seriously intrigued. Apart from the fact that it’s an iPhone, the leakers have been keeping our minds (and hearts!) busy with all the speculated features and designs. Read on to see why we’re growing more than a little impatient to get our hands on this device.

The Name Game

At the moment, predictions point to a September reveal, but delays are a possibility due to COVID-19. The name is also speculated to be iPhone 12, but with Samsung opting to name their new Galaxy phone the S20 rather than the S11, it’s fair to say we could see an iPhone 20, or an entirely different name altogether. It is the first flagship iPhone of the new decade and it wouldn’t be implausible for a new name instead of a numbering scheme.

Twelfth Release, 2012 Design

The iPhone 12’s mockups from leaked information show the return of the classic square edges design, last used in the iPhone 4 and 5 back when you were listening to one direction and worrying about the world ending in 2012 (spoilers: it didn’t). Prominent Apple leaker Ben Geskin shared on his Twitter account his personal mockup of the iPhone 12, showing a design that is a combination of the iPhone 11, iPhone 5 and wait for it… the iPhone 4. The design is said to incorporate elements from the iPad Pro and It also appears to not have a notch on the display or as others have speculated, a smaller notch due to Apple reportedly developing a new version of face ID. Bloomberg has also leaked information stating that the iPhone 12 will have multiple models with a flat stainless steel display as well as a flat display, a claim further fuelled by leaks from Youtube channel Everything Apple Pro, in which prolific leaker Max Weinbach from XDA-Developers decides to take mock-ups to the max (see what we did there?) and 3D print dummy iPhone 12 Pro Max models based on new renderings he has received.

iPhone 12

Ben Gaskin’s mockup without a doubt takes us back to 2012. It looks like the beautiful offspring of an iPhone 4 and iPhone 11.

Other tech blogs have also been utilising the information linked by Bloomberg to create their own mockups, as shown here with an impressive mockup by Phonearena. We’re quite fond of the mix of the old and new school in these designs!

Decisions, Decisions

As to be expected, the iPhone 12 may release in four models, with two being premium versions and the other two being budget models according to leaks uncovered by Bloomberg. Prolific Apple leaker Jon Prosser from Youtube channel Front Page Tech also posted to his Twitter account the supposed iPhone 12 model names and specs. We’re quite excited with the addition of the A14 Bionic processor if the leaks are to be believed. Take a look at the purported specs and of course, keep in mind that the actual specs could be very different.

A New Generation of Features

Among the smorgasbord of new features speculated for the iPhone 12, is a silky smooth 120Hz refresh rate for all new models. It’s plausible we believe, mainly due to the inclusion of 120Hz in all Samsung S20 models. Perhaps another feature that we’re hoping comes true is the change from LCD to OLED screens as reported by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Your television may no longer be the only place you experience the deep colours and detail offered by OLED.

On the topic of RAM, reports from analysts Barclays state that the higher-end iPhone 12 models will get 6GB, with the weakest iPhone 12 version shipping with 4GB. Wondering why we can’t wait to get our hands on the A14 Bionic chip in the iPhone 12? Tech blog Gizchina has gotten their hands on leaked iPhone 12 benchmarks and the results if they are to believed, might make Samsung a little uneasy. That’s right, the A14 leaked benchmarks were shown to be faster than any 2020 Snapdragon chipset. Of course, take this with a grain of salt, but it’s enough to put a big smile on the face of any Apple fanboy.

Dude, Where’s My Lightning?

What could be the strangest yet most believable prediction would be the iPhone 12 adopting USB-C for its charging cable. You read that right, Apple may end up scrapping the beloved lightning cable. Why you might ask? On the 31st of January 2020, a resolution was passed in European parliament calling for 'the mandatory introduction of common chargers for all mobile devices' as per the report. This resolution plans to force all upcoming smartphones to adopt the USB-C standard. We’ll have to wait for this one, but would Apple create European models of its iPhone 12 with USB-C charging and bundle lighting charging in the iPhone 12 versions for the rest of the world? Whatever decision Apple makes, this may very well be the most interesting change in the iPhone’s history.

So now the waiting game begins! Whether it’s called iPhone 12, iPhone 20 or another unique name, you can be assured that Apple is going to deliver a phone for the decade, a smartphone that will wow you in ways you could never imagine. Stay tuned on our Smart Blog for more mind-blowing details!
