If you’ve been following the rumour mill for a while, you would have seen talk about the S21FE Fan edition. Speculated to be cancelled, Samsung has decided to surprise us at the beginning of 2022 with a version of the S21 Series that’s easier on our budgets yet still worthy enough to hold the Galaxy S moniker. Is it an entree to what Samsung has planned for the year or a last-minute release to cut losses? In terms of the design, the Galaxy S21FE is quite similar to the standard Galaxy S21. There’s a generous 4500mAh battery alongside a dazzling 6.4-inch AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate that's smooth as butter. The Galaxy S21FE comes in olive, lavender, graphite and white colours, plus for storage, there are 128GB and 256GB options. The 256GB model proves to be better value though as apart from the increased storage, ships with 8GB of RAM while the 128GB version only ships with 6GB. While 6GB will still be lightning-quick, more RAM is always welcome which you’ll certainly come to appreciate while multitasking. Regarding the type of chipset you can expect, according to GSMArena, the Snapdragon 888 5G will be powering the S21FE, with an Exynos 2100 for other markets such as Australia, or to put it in simpler terms expect top of the range performance! In an unsurprising move, the Galaxy S21FE won’t include expandable storage or a headphone jack which is a little disappointing for a device that’s in between the flagship and mid-range but we’ve gotten used to a future that sadly won’t include them.

If you’re worried that the S21FE’s cameras won’t be up to scratch compared to its older siblings in the S21 range, you’d be thankfully wrong. According to Samsung, the S21FE includes a 12MP Ultra Wide Camera, 12MP Wide-angle Camera, 8MP Telephoto Camera and a 32MP Selfie Camera which should perfectly accommodate your Instagram addiction. Of course, it doesn’t just end there as the S21FE’s cameras also have a Portrait Mode, Dual recording which allows seamless switching between cameras, Night Mode so poor lighting won’t get in the way of a solid picture and 30x Space Zoom, for when you need to get up and close without actually doing that! Tom’s Guide was impressed with the Camera for the S21FE. While it certainly won’t be beating the iPhone 13 as shown in their comparison, it’s still more than sufficient and you can rest assured it’ll bring out your best for social media.
Fan Impressions
So far, the Galaxy S21FE has had a positive reception from reviewers. CNET was fond of the device and considered it a worthy upgrade especially when compared to the Galaxy S20FE and Galaxy S21. TechRadar, while still praising the specs were a little less impressed with the device citing a lack of enticing features. Android Authority’s opinions were more positive, although an in-depth review is still incoming. Overall, we’d say the reception has been positive but mixed in some areas. It’s no doubt that the Galaxy S21FE is a fantastic phone, but the temptation to wait out for the Galaxy S22 Series may be too much for many. Considering the current leaks for the Galaxy S22 and what looks to be a February reveal and release, that impatience may not be so bad after all!
Samsung’s “Fan” releases have been nothing short of impressive so far. From the Galaxy Note Fan Edition to the S20FE, they’ve always been a great way to experience a flagship range with a great price albeit minor sacrifices. Does the Galaxy S21FE continue this trend?
