It’s finally that time of the year again. After months of agonising anticipation, leaks and rumours the iPhone 13 has finally been revealed by Apple! As much as we love the iPhone 12, moving on has never looked better and this year’s iPhone is a perfect refinement of the Apple formula that’s worked so well over the years. Call it advanced simplicity or just Apple being awesome, one thing that’s guaranteed is that we’re in for quite the ride this year once the iPhone 13 is in our hands. It's not just the iPhone 13 that looks to rock our worlds as the Apple Watch Series 7, iPad 10.2 9th Gen and the long rumoured iPad Mini 6 were also shown! Let’s jump straight into what Apple’s California Streaming Event has revealed and why 2021 will belong to Apple. Check out a recap from The Verge Below:
Lucky Number 13
iPhone the 13th
It looks as Apple doesn’t fall for superstitions, and the iPhone 13 is proof of that. We were all looking at the possibility we’d see an iPhone 12S this year but alas, the iPhone 12S is officially dead and long live the iPhone 13 at least until the next iPhone. It is no surprise as Apple has always carved its own path and once again we’ll be seeing the standard iPhone 13 alongside the iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, and the revered iPhone 13 Mini. It’s a bold move by Apple to utilise the number 13 for naming the next iPhone due to the number's association with bad luck alongside releasing another iPhone Mini since the iPhone 12 Mini’s sales reportedly did not impress Apple. Either way, they know how to get you to take a bite of the Apple (pun intended) so let’s take a closer look at the iPhone 13 family and while you're at it get prepared with our range of iPhone 13 Accessories!
An iPhone 13 on Elm Street
The standard iPhone 13 release this year certainly doesn’t look to disappoint. While the design is still reminiscent of the iPhone 12, 5 and 4 it sports a smaller notch as well as diagonal cameras rather than the horizontal design we’ve become accustomed to on the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 Series. A gorgeous Super Retina XDR display awaits on both the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini, with 800 nits of brightness and up to 1200 nits with HDR so nothing gets in the way of a clear display even when under direct sunlight. Expect accurate colours and vibrant images that may even make you forget you’re looking at a screen. It comes in red, starlight, midnight, blue, and pink colours.
As expected, the A15 Bionic Chip makes its debut in an iPhone included alongside iOS15. Touted as “The fastest chip in a smartphone” by Apple, this chip looks to shake up what we’ve come to expect from our devices. Apple states that the A15 Bionic Chip will deliver 50% faster CPU speed alongside 30% faster graphics than the competition. Bold claims we must admit but we haven’t been let down by Apple yet! The A15 Bionic Chip also allows the iPhone 13/iPhone 13 Mini’s camera to truly shine as this upgrade looks to be the most significant yet! There are now Photographic styles, which take filters to the next level by optimising the colour of individual aspects in an image rather than just an overlay. There’s Cinematic Mode as well, which should bring out the producer within you as it gives you tools used by Directors such as Rack Focus, allowing you to shift focus on different subjects for a truly cinematic experience. To further sweeten the deal all features available in the back cameras will be included in the front camera so get ready to sharpen your selfie game!
Level 13 Max Professional
While the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini might look stunning, the iPhone 13 Pro alongside the iPhone 13 Pro Max are the true game-changers here. What looks to be the most significant upgrade in these spectacular devices is the inclusion of 120Hz ProMotion! Yes, that’s correct Apple has finally included a 120Hz refresh rate in an iPhone! It’s certainly about time as well considering Samsung’s devices all previously embraced the buttery smooth framerate. There’s also a 1TB variant available which should go perfect with the exclusive features for the Pro variants of the iPhone 13 Pro as excellently summarised by MacRumors. Expect powerful Macro Photography with the Ultra-wide camera able to focus at 2cm. We’ll also see Telephoto Night Mode and portraits (pun potentially intended) alongside an upgraded cinematic mode that utilises all camera features on the Pro models. 9to5Mac have stated we’ll see ProRes support for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max which to put in simpler terms will be more than convenient for video editors. The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max measure at 6.1 and 6.7 inches and will be available in Graphite, Gold, Silver plus Sierra Blue.We seriously cannot wait!
Mini Yet Mighty
The long rumoured and awaited addition to the iPad Mini Series will also be gracing our hands soon, with the iPad Mini 6 looking to be a more than worthy addition to the beloved range. Expect an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display alongside raw power with the A15 Bionic chip as seen in the iPhone 13 Series. It’ll also include a USB-C port alongside 5G connectivity for the cellular versions ensuring you’ll get lightning-quick speeds, without a lightning cable (we just had to say that). The iPad Mini 6 will also include 4K video recording at up to 60 frames per second with Cinematic Video Stabilisation for that Hollywood touch in your videos as the 12MP Wide Camera delivers in spades.Throw in support for the 2nd Gen Apple Pencil and the iPad Mini 6 is everything an iPad should be, just smaller.
Advanced Convenience
The iPad Mini 6 wasn’t the only new iPad that was revealed, as Apple has shown off the iPad 10.2 9th Gen as well! The 10.2 range have always struck a fantastic balance between features, price and value with this year’s successor certainly looking to continue this trend. While the A13 Bionic chip may be a slight compromise, with the value this iPad brings it’s hard to complain! True Tone looks to be the star of the show with the vibrant screen automatically adjusting the display to match the colour temperature of wherever you are. There’s also a 12MP Ultra Wide Front Camera that makes FaceTime alongside silly selfies more enjoyable than ever especially with the Centre Stage feature that allows everybody to properly be in view during video calls. With a generous 256GB option available as well, the iPad 10.2 9th Gen wants to redefine value alongside innovation.
Watch This Space For The 7th Time
It looks like we can finally lay the rumours to rest as Apple has announced the Apple Watch Series 7! Why upgrade to the Watch Series 7 you might ask? Well, Apple has summarised this brilliantly as expected. There’s a larger display with borders reduced by 40% and a redesigned keyboard that makes responding to messages more efficiently than ever with QuickPath, allowing Machine Learning to assist. It will also be the most durable Apple Watch and offers Crack, Water and iP6X Certified Dust Resistance. You’ll also be able to measure your Blood Oxygen Level and to further sweeten the deal, the Apple Watch 7 will be able to go from 0 to 80 per cent charge in only 45 minutes, making this an even more enticing upgrade.
Apple’s conferences and reveals are yet to disappoint us, with this year certainly looking to be the most unique. We’ve got a new iPhone, iPads and even a Watch to look forward to making investing in the Apple ecosystem more exciting than ever.
