smartphonesshop.com.au - This is it! After many sleepless nights thinking about what the next iPhone would look like, we finally get to see it in its full glory. Apple’s Hi, Speed event had quite the reveals, with four iPhones and a new HomePod. We’ve also seen that Apple has chosen not to play Samsung’s name game and respectively called its new flagship range iPhone 12. So enough with the introductions, let’s jump in and see the juicy reveals! Check out the recap of the event from The Verge below:
The Odd Line-up
The highlight of Apple’s Hi, Speed event was no doubt the iPhone 12 line-up, which will also include the Pro, Pro Max and Mini variants. We’re happy to say that the leaked renders which showed a design inspired by the iPhone 4/5 and the iPad were actually true! (Thank you, Jon Prosser) From what Apple has shown, the iPhone 12 is truly a piece of work, with nostalgic flat edges and a gorgeous ceramic shield glass, which Apple states will be tougher than any other smartphone glass according to CNET. Of course, before we go any further, here’s a handy comparison of the specs between all four iPhone models again from CNET:

Stole The ShowSo what’s waiting for us this year with the iPhone 12? We’ll be getting a device that’s optimised for lightning-fast 5G speeds, with a new A14 Bionic Chip which Apple states is the fastest chip in a smartphone, delivering unprecedented speeds and a buttery smooth experience like no other. The A14 Bionic chip includes a 16-core Neural Engine, that can perform a monstrous 11 trillion operations per second. Yes, you read that correctly, and you’re going to get a sleek experience regardless of what you love to do on your iPhone. An OLED display returns here, but with mindblowing colour management that will give you the most accurate representation of colours, with a display that houses twice the pixels of the iPhone 11 alongside eye-popping HDR that looks better than real life. There’s an Ultra-Wide camera, 4K video at 60 FPS and a brand new Wide camera alongside Night Mode combined with Deep Fusion settings that will allow you to easily take crystal clear images without worrying about environmental lighting. Perhaps the most mindblowing aspect when it comes to the iPhone 12’s cameras is that they will be the first that can shoot HDR alongside the prestigious Dolby Vision! We suspect we’re going to have a very hard time removing our eyes from the iPhone 12’s display.
Mini-MeThose of you who loved the original iPhone SE are in for a treat this year, as Apple has unveiled the iPhone 12 Mini, the smallest 5G compatible smartphone. The best thing about it? There are hardly any compromises made to it compared to the original iPhone 12. You get the full functionality of the beastly iPhone 12 jam-packed into a miniature device with a 5.4” screen and a gorgeous OLED display that proves you don’t need an oversized screen to enjoy the future. Those with small hands or who prefer smaller screens will truly be overjoyed, and we’ve become even more nostalgic for the iPhone SE than ever. Excuse us while we dig it out and use it until we get our hands on the iPhone 12 Mini.
The World Doesn’t Need A Hero, It Needs A Professional
Predictably, this year’s iPhone lineup will include an iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max. We were more than fond of last year’s variants of the iPhone 11, and we’ve got to say, it looks like that’s going to be the same this year! The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max feature more vibrant screens and higher brightness for HDR, but also include 60FPS Dolby Vision HDR recording, for lifelike videos that put other smartphone cameras to shame. The inclusion of a LiDAR scanner looks to redefine Augmented Reality on both models, where according to Techcrunch, the scanner will allow your iPhone 12 Pro or Pro Max to understand the setting around you in the most efficient manner, delivering an AR experience that’s determined by your surroundings. All you avid Snapchatters will also be ecstatic to hear that Snapchat is looking to make the most of this feature! We look forward to the upcoming plethora of zany creations.
It doesn’t just end there, as the more powerful variants of the iPhone 12 come with access to Apple ProRaw, a new image format that looks to make avid photographers drool at the immense number of customisation options available. Techradar summarises the new feature best, describing it as a simpler method of customising raw images that will give budding photographers the power to change lighting and colours in a manner uncommon to smartphones. In other words, Apple wants you to become a professional photographer without the equipment and expertise needed.
Sweet, Sweet 5G
If there’s one feature Apple really wants us to focus on, it’s the iPhone 12’s 5G capabilities and we certainly don’t blame them for that. Apple claims that the entire iPhone 12 lineup will include “the most 5G bands of any smartphone,” with a Smart Data Mode that switches between both 4G and 5G depending on your needs and location, much to the relief of our batteries. There’s also blisteringly fast mmWave support, but according to MacRumors that will be limited to the United States currently. Either way it seems the days of slow mobile data downloads are truly numbered, making that binge streaming session on the train more efficient than ever.
The inclusion of a Lightning port in the iPhone 12 was a very interesting decision indeed from Apple, especially in the light of the European Union’s proposal to make all smartphones adopt the widely beloved USB-C format. Although the included USB‑C to Lightning Cable will make things easier for many, the real star of the show here is the MagSafe charger, that Apple is bringing back just for its iPhone 12 lineup. As noted by Gizmodo, they’re a new range of magnetic wireless chargers that easily clip on the back of your iPhone 12. The best feature? They charge at 15W, double the speed of other iPhone wireless chargers. There are also incoming accessories for MagSafe Charging, including a dual wireless charger for both your iPhone and Apple Watch. Looks like the wired charging purists will no longer be able to complain about the lengthy times associated with QI wireless charging!
Home Is Where The Heart Is At
Overshadowed by the insane iPhone 12 announcement we’ve all been going crazy for, Apple also announced a new version of its HomePod called the HomePod Mini. According to Macworld, we can expect a height that’s half the length of the original HomePod, three microphones, Ultra-wideband support and even a Telecom feature that looks to broadcast that rant over your lost keys across all connected AirPods and HomePods in your home, because why shouldn’t your home be as smart as your iPhone?
So there it is, the announcement of the year! We’re more than happy that we can finally sleep better, especially since we’ve seen exactly how the iPhone 12 plans to rock our world. If you’re ready to jump on the Apple bandwagon all over again, pre-orders for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro start on the 16th of October, 2020 alongside a release date on October 23rd, while pre-orders for the iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Mini begin on the 7th of November, 2020, releasing on the 13th of November 2020.
