The Problem with: Apple

Considering I wrote what my issue was with Samsung the other week, maybe it’s time to write about Apple. I was originally going to write this up about three days ago but put it off, and I’m glad I did. With two big news posts about Apple coming out in the last two days the points I was going to make are just further backed up by recent announcements. As I did with Samsung, I feel the need to mention Apple makes amazing phones, they may not be power houses but they’re as user friendly as a phone can come and are feature complete, this is less about the phone and more about the company.

No care for the industry as a whole

Apple is popular, and they know it. Apple does what apple wants and apple fans follow, I’m not saying this is completely bad but it definitely is in many ways. A perfect example is lightning USB cables, double-sided USB technology is available as USB Type-C, but rather than using what clearly everyone else will be using they choose to use their own. Why? Extra sales. Apple sells their own cables and unless they’re “Apple approved” a cable won’t work on an iPhone. This makes everyday life harder for EVERYONE. Friends can’t share cables, manufacturers have to pick what phone they wish to be compatible with or make multiple versions of their product.

Apple music is another example of this. Yeah it’s a great service, but the likes of Apple exclusive music video releases song releases is toxic as they come. Paying out labels to release songs only to one provider makes things harder for everyone else who just wants to listen to music.

16GB Storage Option

Honestly this is just a case of “buy our bigger phones”. 16GB isn’t on and it needs to be ditched for a 32GB option at the same price point. 16GB with a 2GB OS makes 14GB. I have games that are 1.5GB alone on my Android device. With HD video recording and image capturing 16GB is nowhere near enough, especially for people who just upgrade on 24 month contracts with phone providers.

They Invest only in themselves

I see very little news about Apple’s investments in terms of development and charity. I admit I don’t know the inner workings of apple or anything of the sort, but from what I do know they do nothing but create the same products. Innovation? Side products? Nothing of the sort. Google starts random campaigns just to push technology and see what smart people can do with a bit of money. For example their project about the “build it yourself” phone.

Samsung will release information about projects they’re working on and won’t release, bendable phone screens and foldable tablets are two of the many projects Samsung undergoes to push technology further. Apple’s greatest innovation in recent years has been force touch/3D touch, make of that as you will.
